The Unitarian Universalist Congregation has a large number of committees, church programs, and other groups that are associated with us. No matter who you are or where your interests lie, we probably have something here that will beckon you to join or at least to take a closer look.

This page contains a list of all of the church committees, adult spiritual and educational programs, community service and social action groups, and organizations that meet at our church.

Church Committees

Church Council
The officers and Council members are elected by the congregation, meet monthly, and carry out the policies of the church.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of the Council, the officers of the church, are empowered to make emergency policy decisions between Council meetings.

Building Committee
The Building Committee is responsible for maintaining our church building, supervising the cleaning staff, and arranging for outside contractors. Volunteers are need to help.

Endowment
The Endowment Committee seeks to expand the long term financial support of the church. Members are elected by the congregation.

Fundraising Committee
We do not have a standing committee but always need volunteers to lead specific fundraising projects.

Long Range Planning
The Long Range Planning Committee organizes the long range planning process of the church. Its members are elected by the Council.

Member Care Committee
The Member Care Committee seeks to strengthen the inner life of the church for adults and families including member involvement, small groups, adult education, and social get-togethers. Members are needed.

Member Development Committee
The Member Development Committee seeks to attract and recruit new members through our website, building exterior, advertising, and public relations and welcoming programs. Members are needed.

Committee on Ministry
The Committee on Ministry consults with and advises Ministers. Its members are elected by the Church Council.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is chaired by the Past Moderator. Its members are elected by the Church Council.

Peace and Justice Committee
The Peace and Justice Committee oversees and assists social justice and community service programs of the church. Members are needed.

Religious Education
The Religious Education Committee oversees and supports programs for children and youth. Members are needed.

Worship and Music Committee
The Worship and Music Committee oversees the worship of the church. Members are needed.

Adult Spiritual and Educational Programs
(open to all persons)

Adult Choir
The Adult Choir sings twice a month at Sunday services. All voices are welcome.

Adult RE Class
The Adult RE Class meets Sunday mornings and is a mixture of discussion topics.

Book Study Group
The Book Study Group meets once a month to study a spiritually-oriented book.

Circle Dinners
Between the months of January and April, members sign up to rotate monthly dinners in members' homes.

Men's Group
The Men's Group meets monthly for a mixture of fun and serious discussion.

Spiritual Practices Class
The Spiritual Practices Class meets every other Monday to share spiritual practices.

Sun City Group
This group meets monthly for liberal religious discussion for Sun City Huntley residents.

Yoga with Jayson
Jayson is a certified hatha yoga instructor. Yoga starts on Saturdays at 8:45 a.m. and ends before the 10:00 a.m. Blue Lotus Temple meditation. All levels are welcome. We ask for a $5 donation.

Community Service and
Social Action Groups
(all groups need volunteers)

Direct Assistance Program (DAP)
DAP is open Monday and Thursday mornings, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, for emergency financial assistance to residents of the Woodstock School District.

Diversity Day
Celebrating diversity, that all persons are welcome in McHenry County, Diversity Day is held on the first Sunday in October.

Green Sanctuary
The Green Sanctuary promotes environmental action, sustainability, and conservation of the earth.

Latino Outreach
The Latino Outreach provides emergency financial assistance to Latino or Latina persons, Mondays from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

McHenry County Peace Coalition
This coalition of peace groups in McHenry County promotes peace in all of its dimensions. It meets on the first Tuesday evening of the month.

McHenry County Pride
McHenry County Pride is a support group for gay and lesbian persons, which meets on Thursday evenings.

Minister's Discretionary Fund
The Minister's Discretionary Fund provides emergency funds used to help low-income families.

Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
PFLAG is a support group for parents, families, and friends of gay and lesbian persons. It meets on the second Tuesday evening of the month.

Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS)
PADS offers overnight shelter and meals to homeless persons, Wednesdays, October through April.

Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple
The Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple offers Buddhist meditation, Mondays at 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.

Congregation Tikkun Olam
Congregation Tikkun Olam is a reform Jewish congregation that meets at the church for services and holy days.

Nia
Nia is a dance exercise program. Separate sessions are available for adults and children. Contact the church office for current schedule.

Nippersink Nickel and Dimers
The Nippersink Nickel and Dimers is a socially responsible investment group. Names are being put on a waiting list for the next group to be formed.

Options & Advocacy - Child & Family Connections
Options & Advocacy is a play group for developmentally challenged children, ages 0-4, meets on the fourth Friday of the month.

Raven Wood Grove, ADF
Raven Wood Grove, ADF is a Celtic Druidic Grove that welcomes anyone with an interest in Earth-centered spirituality. Raven Wood follows the pagan path of the Gods, Ancestors and Nature Spirits. They hold rituals on the eight high days, following the circle of the year, as well as full moon rituals.

Recovery International
Help yourself manage cognitive, behavioral, and nervous symptoms like depression, anxiety, panic, tension headaches, insomnia and more with this long-proven cognitive-behavioral method from non-profit Recovery International. Learn and practice this highly effective self-help method at open weekly meetings. Recovery is a volunteer-run organization and is not a 12-step program. You are welcome at any meeting and participation and donation are strictly voluntary. Recovery meets at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Ten Directions Zen Meditation
The Ten Directions Zen Community practices Zen exercise and meditation in the Korean tradition. It meets on Tuesday evenings.

Women Alive! Drum Circle
Come drum, have fun and enjoy a circle of women...drumming! Every fourth Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., Women Alive! Drum Circle meets and beats. Don't need a drum, just you and your hands.
